TL;DR: Tasha K tried to use bankruptcy to avoid paying Cardi B $4M. The judge found she was hiding info, held her in contempt, and now Cardi is cleared to go after her money.
What Happened?
The long-standing legal feud between Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B and gossip blogger Tasha K has reached a tipping point. A federal judge recently ruled Tasha K (Latasha Kebe) in contempt of court regarding her ongoing bankruptcy case. This stems from Tasha’s alleged failure to be transparent about her finances while attempting to discharge the $4 million she owes Cardi B for defamation.
Backstory:
On June 21st, 2023, Cardi B shares a screenshot of a since deleted tweet from Tasha K alleging that Cardi B was posting weapons right after the passing of rapper Takeoff. She went as far as using the rappers name as a pun in her description of Cardi’s alleged actions at the time, saying ‘everyone grieves [different]…’
In response, Cardi B claps back at Tasha K calling her ‘despicable’ and ‘disgusting’ for bringing up Takeoff to prove a point. She goes on to describe her state of being at the time, sharing that she lost weight, couldn’t eat, or sleep at the time – revealing that her and ex-husband Offset were still processing what happened. Cardi B then states her commitment to making sure Tasha K’s kid doesn’t go to college – ensuring Tasha that her lawyers know about the money hiding in Africa, closing with “DONT EVER PUT TAKEOFF NAME IN YA MOUTH.”
Why This Is Blowing Up
For months, Tasha K has used her bankruptcy filing as a shield to prevent Cardi B from collecting her millions. However, the court found that Tasha was not complying with discovery requests or accurately reporting her income streams. By being held in contempt, Tasha loses significant protections, allowing Cardi’s legal team to pursue her assets with renewed aggression.
