The Atlanta Dream are back in the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013. Their matchup with the Golden State Valkyries is set, but one important detail for local fans remains unsettled: where the Dream will host their Finals games.
State Farm Arena is unavailable on the scheduled Atlanta dates. The Dream have not finalized another venue, and reporting points to Gateway Center Arena as the expected location, barring a late change. The question is about scheduling and available capacity, as Atlanta’s team prepares for a historic run.
A historic Finals return for Atlanta
The Dream advanced by sweeping the New York Liberty in the semifinals. In Game 2, Atlanta earned a 101-98 overtime win at State Farm Arena. Now the team faces Golden State in a best-of-seven Finals series.
The return puts Atlanta back on the league’s biggest stage for the first time since 2013. The series gives local fans a chance to follow a championship run at home, even as the team works through the practical question of where its home games can be played.
That venue question is a timely piece of Atlanta sports news. It also sits alongside the busy schedule of concerts and basketball games that fills the city’s arenas. The team’s plan for the Finals is not an entertainment-news announcement, but the event calendar is central to understanding why State Farm Arena is unavailable.

2026 WNBA Finals schedule
All times are Eastern. Atlanta’s home venue is not finalized as of October 13.
| Game | Date and time | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Game 1 | Saturday, October 17, 3:30 p.m. | Golden State |
| Game 2 | Monday, October 19, 8 p.m. | Golden State |
| Game 3 | Thursday, October 22, 8 p.m. | Atlanta; venue not finalized |
| Game 4 | Saturday, October 24, 3:30 p.m. | Atlanta; venue not finalized |
| Game 5, if necessary | Monday, October 26, 8 p.m. | Golden State |
| Game 6, if necessary | Thursday, October 29, 8 p.m. | Atlanta; venue not finalized |
| Game 7, if necessary | Saturday, October 31, 8 p.m. | Golden State |
The first two games are in Golden State. The series then moves to Atlanta for Games 3 and 4, with a possible third Atlanta home game in Game 6. The WNBA schedule lists the Atlanta locations as to be determined.
Why State Farm Arena is unavailable
The Dream are scheduled to host Game 3 on October 22. A concert is on the State Farm Arena calendar that day.
Game 4 is scheduled for October 24, the same date as an Atlanta Hawks home game. The potential Game 6 falls on October 29, when the Hawks are also scheduled to play at home.
These calendar conflicts mean State Farm Arena cannot host the Dream on the dates currently set aside for Atlanta’s Finals games. The timing is a scheduling challenge, not a comment on the arena, the Hawks or the Dream.

The Dream explored larger alternatives, including Gas South Arena and McCamish Pavilion, but neither option came together. The team has not announced a finalized venue. Reporting on the venue search points to Gateway Center Arena as the expected site, unless plans change.
Gateway Center Arena is the expected option
Gateway Center Arena in College Park is the Dream’s current primary home, and it has been their home court since 2021. It seats about 3,500 people for basketball. Barring a late change, the team is expected to host its Finals home games there.
That would give the Dream a familiar home court for a major series, while limiting the number of fans who can attend compared with a larger arena. The difference in capacity is an important part of the story, particularly as Atlanta returns to the Finals and local interest grows.
The expected venue is not the same as a confirmed venue. As of October 13, the Dream have not finalized the site. Fans should wait for an official announcement before making plans based on Gateway Center Arena.

State Farm Arena move begins in 2027
The venue question for this Finals is separate from the Dream’s longer-term home-court plans. On October 6, the team announced a multi-year agreement to play all home games at State Farm Arena starting with the 2027 season.
That change establishes State Farm Arena as the Dream’s regular home going forward. It does not resolve the scheduling conflicts for the 2026 Finals dates. For this series, the immediate question remains which venue can host the Atlanta games on October 22, October 24 and, if necessary, October 29.
The move gives the team and fans a clear home venue to look toward next season. For now, the Finals venue announcement is a separate update to follow.
What fans should know before making plans
As of October 13, the Dream have not finalized their home venue for the Finals, and tickets for the Atlanta home games are not yet on sale. Fans should check the team’s official website and Facebook page for venue and ticket updates.
A confirmed venue will help fans assess location, seating and travel plans. Until an announcement arrives, treat Gateway Center Arena as the expected option, not a final confirmation.
A first title is at stake
The Dream have never won a WNBA championship. The Valkyries are also seeking the first title in franchise history, so the series guarantees a first-time champion.
Atlanta’s return to the Finals gives the city a milestone to follow. The venue remains an open question, but the schedule is set and the stakes are clear. Fans can follow the Dream’s official updates as the team finalizes where its home games will take place. For more Atlanta sports news, visit the Atlanta Wave TV newsroom.
