“She calls me, I’m coming”—an actor pays tribute to the power of producer Tressa Smallwood for creating real opportunities in Black Hollywood.
ATLANTA, GA — In an industry where breaking into established spaces can often feel like an uphill battle, having powerful allies behind the camera makes all the difference.
Atlanta Wave TV caught up with one of Hollywood’s rising talents on the carpet during a premiere event as he opened up about loyalty, opportunity, and the power of Black-owned production houses like Tressa Smallwood’s MegaMind Media.
“Shout out to Tressa Smallwood & MegaMind Media for giving me work when nobody else would,” he shared warmly with AWTV. “I sure appreciate it.”
Navigating mainstream and independent spaces often presents unique hurdles for actors of color trying to establish a footprint. When asked about his journey, the actor candidly addressed the challenges of breaking through and how one call changed the trajectory of his career.
“In the Black spaces, for some reason, I just could never break into those spaces,” he explained. “My first opportunity with Tressa was opposite Claressa Shields in the film The Perfect Fight for BET Her. And then they came back—MegaMind came back—and brought me in for Wicked City playing ‘The Handler.’ So that was really dope, and I appreciate that. I will always love her for that. She called me, I’m coming!”
Beyond his television work with ALLBLK and BET, the actor teased a busy roadmap ahead. In addition to ongoing work like Beyond the Gates, he is expanding his personal brand outside of entertainment into the lifestyle space with an upcoming fragrance line set to launch.
